An Alcohol Dependent Person Enrolls In Rehab And Gets Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcohol Dependency Donald used to talk big to his friends how he could keep a demanding and full-time job and get drunk virtually every night. Unfortunately, after maintaining this destructive lifestyle for around five-and-a-half years, he started to display various alcohol related problems.
As an example, he had a hard time getting up for work because he felt so tired when he awoke. Furthermore, most mornings Donald had a dreadful hangover. It was clear that the combination of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel inspired to go to work. To make matters worse, he recently got his third driving under the influence citation in the past three months.
To further compound things, at his place of employment his last two work assessments were less than acceptable. And finally, his two-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had deteriorated due to his financial difficulties, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his depression.
Though Donald was only twenty-eight years old, he honestly began to look like he was in his mid forties. Unfortunately, this is what excessive and hazardous drinking can do to an individual. And in truth he realized that he was suffering from the negative effects of alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency and that he was too young to squander his life to abusive and irresponsible drinking. So at first he tried to drink in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon comprehended the fact that he lost all control after consuming his first drink. Due to the fact that this was an event that was repeated over and over again, this distressed him greatly. In truth, he began to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.
After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his careless and excessive drinking with his girlfriend, he finally decided to schedule an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his doctor, he frankly mentioned that he has been drinking in a hazardous manner, that he may be exhibiting behavior characteristic of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to quit drinking. He then confirmed that drinking in moderation does not seem to work for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can live an alcohol-free life.
Donald also told his physician about his depression and how this mental health issue was negatively influencing his relationship with his lady friend. His doctor referred Donald to Doctor Fullmer, a drug and alcohol addiction psychiatrist, who persuaded Donald to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehabilitation. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical attention for his depression at this facility.
After four months of comprehensive rehabilitation, Donald left the residential treatment center and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Encouraged to change his life in a more positive direction, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out two or three times per week. Within seven months Donald was a new person. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he remained sober for several months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more loving person in his relationship with his lady friend. Stated briefly, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
